This newspaper for MCI Bridgewater (The beacon) was begun as a vocational exercise for the inmates, who set the type. Published monthly from Dec. 1960, and then bimonthly from Feb. 1971 (ending date undetermined), it was distributed within and outside MCI.

In 1955 the Massachusetts correctional system was reorganized, so that the State Farm at Bridgewater became the Massachusetts Correctional Institution, Bridgewater, commonly called MCI Bridgewater.
